Arsenal secured a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in front of a record-breaking Women's Super League crowd of 60,160 at the Emirates Stadium, thanks to a dominant first-half display.
Despite the Red Devils showing early promise, their fortunes took a turn for the worse in the 10th minute when Geyse Ferreira inadvertently diverted a Katie McCabe corner into her own net.
The hosts capitalised on United's misfortune, extending their lead when Katie Zelem's attempted clearance turned into a brilliant cross for Cloe Lacasse to score, leaving United trailing 2-0 at half-time.
There still time in added time for the Gunners to further solidify their lead with a Kim Little penalty, making it 3-0 at the break.
Although Lucia Garcia managed to pull one back for United in stoppage time of the second half, a comeback never seemed likely.
With this result, Arsenal will stay third but they narrowed the gap to the top two teams to just three points following Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City of Friday night.
