Luton claim their first-ever Premier League point

Luton Town, who had struggled in their initial four Premier League matches following their promotion last season, finally secured a point in a 1-1 draw against Wolves at Kenilworth Road.

Right from the beginning, Luton played an aggressive attacking style, with Chiedozie Ogbene, in particular, posed a constant threat to Wolves' defense.

The hosts had a great chance to take the lead within the first 10 minutes when Carlton Morris had enough space to take a shot from outside the box, that hit the crossbar, leaving Wolves relieved.

By the 25-minute mark, the Hatters had already registered seven shots, but they began to lose momentum, allowing Wolves to regain composure and enjoy more possession.

However, the visitors found themselves down to 10 players in the 36th minute due to a needless red card.

Mahamadou Bellegarde kicked Tom Lockyer after a tangle of legs on the ground, leaving the referee Josh Smith with no option but to send off the Frenchman.

Even with 10 men, Wolves managed to take the lead just five minutes into the second half, after Pedro Neto seized a loose ball on the right, made a run inside, and unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net, beating Thomas Kaminski at the near post.

Luton's deficit only lasted for 14 minutes as they benefited from another refereeing decision, albeit a controversial one.

The referee awarded Luton a penalty for handball against Joao Gomes, even though the ball had deflected off Gomes' foot onto his arm as he blocked Issa Kabore's shot.

The VAR room upheld Smith's original decision, and Carlton Morris calmly converted the penalty, sending Jose Sa the wrong way to level the score.

Rob Edwards' men pushed hard for the goal that would have given them their first-ever Premier League win, and in the 89th minute, Ogbene thought he had achieved it, but the flag quickly went up for offside against him.

Despite earning their first point of the season in their fifth attempt, Luton remains at the bottom of the table, while Gary O'Neil's side, on the other hand, moved up to 15th place, overtaking Bournemouth thanks to their hard-earned point.

Both teams will now face lower-tier opponents in the Carabao Cup third round, with Luton travelling to Exeter City on Tuesday, while Wolves will head to Portman Road to meet Ipswich Town.
