Liverpool come from behind to defeat Wolves

Liverpool’s second-half performance earned them all three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers to go top of the Premier League.

Jürgen Klopp was without Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Thiago Alcântara for this game and it may explain why the Reds started so slowly.

Pedro Neto in particular was having a superb first half for Wolves and it was his jinking run that set up Hwang Hee-chan for an opening goal in the seventh minute.

It should have been two for the home side when Pedro Neto nutmegged Joe Gomez and delivered a ball that Matheus Cunha should have headed in. However, the Brazilian seemed to completely misread the flight of the ball which instead hit him in the chest.

It was a let-off for Liverpool who would have been happy to go into half-time only 1-0 down.

The winner came late on after José Sá attempted to free Pedro Neto with a quick throw. However, Andy Robertson intercepted and drove the ball forward before playing a quick one-two with Salah and finishing.

The points were wrapped up for Liverpool in the first minute of stoppage time when Darwin Núñez, who VAR judged not to have fouled Craig Dawson, found Salah on the right. The Egyptian then teed the ball up for substitute Harvey Elliott to shoot from the edge of the area.

The shop took a deflection from Hugo Bueno – who will get the ‘credit’ for the goal – and ensured that Liverpool go top of the league for the first time in 16 months.
