Benfica triumphed over Sporting, 2x1, on Sunday, in a game related to matchweek 11 of Primeira Liga. Coming into the contest, the encarnados came from a win, and the leões came from two wins. In the starting XI there was Marcus Edwards.
Viktor Gyökeres opened the score shortly before the interval, with a right-foot strike.
After 50 minutes, Gonçalo Inácio saw a red card after receiving his second yellow in time added on, João Neves struck for Benfica, from a corner. Casper Tengstedt scored the winner in the final minutes of the game with a right-foot shot inside the penalty area.
After the result Benfica are 1st in the table, with 28 points, while Sporting sit 2nd place, with 28 points. Next up, Roger Schmidt's team visit Moreirense, whilst the leões will play at home against Gil Vicente.
