Aston Villa beat Wigan Athletic

Aston Villa edged out Wigan Athletic in a close win on Saturday, 3x2, on matchday 2. In this competition, both teams came from a win.

The first goal was scored by James Chester with 13 minutes on the clock. In the 41st minute, Nick Powell fired home for Wigan Athletic, with a right-foot strike from outside the box.

In the 55th minute, Callum Connolly scored the second goal for Paul Cook's team, through a header inside the penalty box, laid on by Nick Powell. In an unfortunate moment Cheyenne Dunkley scored an own goal after 63 minutes, from a corner. Deep into added time, Birkir Bjarnason netted the final goal of the game, with a right-foot shot, after an assist provided by Conor Hourihane.
