Struggling Reading’s financial misfortunes continue with news that the club is being hit by a second winding-up petition of the season.
The Royals have have had numerous financial issues in recent seasons with the club already having been hit with a four-point penalty this season. It’s a deduction that has Reading currently bottom of League One but even without it the Berkshire club would still be in the relegation zone.
This latest winding-up petition stems from two bills that Reading FC, which is up for sale, has yet to pay to the HMRC – the news comes just a few months after another petition was filed against the club.
Reading is likely to going to have to rely on any potential new owners to pay off the bill due to the clash flow issues currently experienced under Dai Yongge. Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is among those said to be among the parties interested in saving the club.
