Underperforming Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have officially confirmed that 27-year-old goalkeeper Alexander Neubel has signed a new contract with the club.
Neubel has extended his deal with the Bavarians until the summer of 2029 but will spend the next two seasons out on loan at Stuttgart, where he is currently on loan, until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Paderborn-born ‘keeper made a name for himself at Schalke between 2016 and 2020, just like current Bayern number one Manuel Neuer, before joining Bayern on a free transfer.
He has only made one Bundesliga appearance for Bayern, though, spending the last three seasons out on loan with the first two in Ligue 1 at Monaco and now with Stuttgart.
Internationally he represented the Germany U21 team 17 times between 2017 and 2019 and was a part of the squad that finished as runners’ up at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Italy and San Marino in 2019.
When Neubel returns from his loan stint at Stuttgart, Neuer will be 40 and so the conclusion to be drawn is that Neubel will return to the Allianz Arena in a position to be Bayern’s next number one, despite the signing of Israeli international Dan Peretz from Maccabi Tel-Aviv last summer.
