Brazil football legend Marta will retire from international football this year.

Marta is Brazil’s all-time record goalscorer in both men’s and women’s football with 116 goals in 175 matches, and she confirmed her retirement in an interview with CNN Esportes that airs on Sunday.

The 38-year-old, who holds the record for the most goals in both men's and women's football for Brazil with 116 goals in 175 matches, has confirmed her retirement in an interview with CNN Esportes from Brazil: “This is my last year, and I can already confirm it here. There is a moment when we have to understand that the time has come."

Currently playing for Orlando Pride in the United States since 2017, Marta aims to make her sixth appearance at the Olympics in this year's Paris Games.

Talking about this summer's Olympics, Marta said: "If I go to the Olympics, I will enjoy every moment, because, regardless of whether I go to the Olympics or not, this is my last year with the national team."

With 17 goals across six World Cup tournaments, Marta holds the record for the most goals scored in World Cups, across both men's and women's competitions.

Wow, what a legend! It's bittersweet news to hear that Marta will be retiring from international football this year. She's been an absolute powerhouse for Brazil, holding the record for most goals in both men's and women's football. Wishing her all the best in her final year and hoping she can make it to the Olympics for the sixth time.
