West Ham missed an opportunity to narrow the gap on the top five in the Premier League as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium by Bournemouth.
Debutant Kalvin Phillips had a forgettable start by mistakenly passing the ball to Dominic Solanke, who capitalised on the error to give Bournemouth an early lead within three minutes.
The Cherries dominated the first half, with Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola making a crucial one-handed save to deny Antoine Semenyo just before half-time, preventing Andoni Iraola's men from extending their lead.
Despite a lackluster performance, the visitors managed to level the score in the 61st minute.
VAR intervened after Lloyd Kelly fouled Mohammed Kudus in the penalty area. Initially, the referee Tim Robinson didn't award the penalty but reversed his decision after consulting the screen, allowing James Ward-Prowse to equalise.
West Ham failed to find a winner and the game ended with both teams settling for a point.
With this result, David Moyes' men remain in the sixth position, while Bournemouth moves up to 12th in the Premier League standings.
