Lindelof and Shaw have seen most minutes under Norwegian

        Solskjaer's trusted lieutenants

Manchester United's fantastic form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued last night with a thrilling 3-1 Champions League win over Paris St Germain in Paris - and the Red Devils' defensive lynchpins Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw were again in the thick of the action.

Two goals from the rejuvenated Romelu Lukaku and a last-gasp penalty from Marcus Rashford - dramatically awarded after an appeal had been relayed to VAR - sealed an incredible comeback for Solskjaer's men, who had been soundly beaten 0-2 by Thomas Tuchel's PSG in the first leg at Old Trafford.

Lukaku and Rashford were the heroes of the piece for United, with Gianluigi Buffon an unlikely villain for the Parisians after his blunder giftwrapped Lukaku's second of the evening, but unsung defensive heroes Lindelof and Shaw were again central to the Red Devils' success.

Untrusted and, in Shaw's case, vilified under José Mourinho, the Swede and the Englishman have emerged at the core of Solskjaer's revitalised side: playing more minutes (1350) for Mourinho's successor than any other players. The Red Devils have now won 14, drawn two and lost just one game under the tutelage of the man who scored United's famous winner in the 1999 Champions League success over Bayern Munich.

Perhaps the most obviously improved player under Solskjaer has been Paul Pogba, who was suspended for last night's encounter, but coming up strong on his heels in recent weeks has been Lukaku, who has hit three consecutive braces for the Red Devils after a decidedly off-colour period, in which Solskjaer preferred Rashford to the big Belgian, who was used mostly off the bench.

The big games keep coming: United face Unai Emery's Arsenal this weekend, prior to an FA Cup quarter-final against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Currently flying under their new manager, however, nothing will intimidate a team that has thrown off the shackles imposed by Mourinho and hit heights that few would have predicted at the beginning of 2019.
