Man City marched into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night.
Gabriel Jesus sent the trophy holders on their way to victory, nodding home from close range in the 36th minute, before Riyad Mahrez (78) doubled the advantage with a superb counter-attacking goal.
Foden, who played a brilliant pass in the build-up to Mahrez's strike, rounded off proceedings in stoppage time for Pep Guardiola's side with his first goal for City, ending Sky Bet League One side Oxford's spirited challenge in the process.
Karl Robinson: "Every single player who took to the pitch tonight I’m immensely proud of. They dominated the ball, but they do that week-in, week-out. We had that bravery. At no stage did we kick Man City, at no stage did we bully them or do things that were against the laws of the game. We played with our hearts and our heads, and we showed we can be a good team."
Pep Guardiola: “Phil Foden is an exceptional young player and for the next decade Manchester City will have an amazing player. He is a special guy in terms of quality with and without the ball. The finishing for the third goal was so good. He has a sense of the goal. He is not a guy who will pass in that situation.”
