Sir Alex Ferguson made an emotional return to Old Trafford on Saturday, but Manchester United were unable to lay on a victory for their former manager, held 1-1 by a Wolves side who already look at home in the Premier League.
United took the lead after 18 minutes as Paul Pogba's impressive touch set up Fred, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Wolves hit back shortly after the halftime break thanks to superb left-footed effort from Joao Moutinho that left De Gea with no chance.
Jose Mourinho's charges were camped in the Wolves for the remainder of the second half as they went in search of a winning goal. However, the visitors defended superbly and secured themselves a point on the road.
José Mourinho: “I think the result is fair. They deserved their point and we deserve the punishment of only getting one point. The way we started we were lucky to be the first team to score. Their approach was more for a football match than ours”
Nuno Espirito Santo: “We draw and we are happy, but know that we have to improve if we want to come to Old Trafford and win one day. We wanted to come here and score because we cannot play any other way”
