Gianluigi Buffon is the best goalkeeper of the world, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), in the last quarter-of-a-century, 1987 to 2011.
The Italian goalkeeper came first and got the better of Iker Casillas and Edwin van der Sar, who came in the second and third position, respectively.
With 226 pontos, the Juventus goalkeeper has been considered as the best player in his position of the past 25 years, as he leads a podium which also includes Real Madrid's man Iker Casillas, with 213 points and the former Manchester United goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, who has retired last season, with 201 points.
In the IFFHS top ten also figure Peter Schmeichel, who played for Manchester United, Aston Villa and finished his career in Manchester City, German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, the current Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, the Paraguayan Chilavert, Zenga, Zibizarreta and Taffarel.
