New York Red Bulls have completed the loan signing of Ashley Fletcher from Watford until the end of the season with an option to buy.
Former Manchester United youth product Fletcher arrived at Watford on a free transfer in the summer from Middlesbrough. However, the 26-year old has played just six games in all competitions for the Hornets this season, scoring twice.
Red Bulls boss Gerhard Struber gave an analytical view of what he expects from his new signing as the MLS season gets underway: “It is good to see Ashley join our squad this season. His general movement off the ball suggests he has a good level of game understanding, which is shown by recognizing and exploiting space with precise timing. He will hopefully prove to be a good piece in the attacking zone.”
The New York team won their first game of the 2022 MLS season 3-1 away to San Jose Earthquakes. Fletcher could potentially make his debut this Saturday as New York Red Bulls travel to Canada to take on Toronto FC.
