Dani Parejo signs new Villarreal deal

La Liga side Villarreal have confirmed that midfielder Dani Parejo has signed a new deal with the club that will keep him contracted at El Madrigal until the summer of 2026.

The 34-year-old Coslada-born former Getafe and Valencia midfielder joined Villarreal in the summer of 2020 and has gone on to make 182 appearances for the Yellow Submarine, proving crucial as they went on to win the UEFA Europa League under Unai Emery in 2021.

The now veteran midfielder is a part of the leadership group at Villarreal but Raul Albiol remains club captain with Manu Trigueros vice-captain and Gerard Moreno the third-captain of the club.

Dani Parejo began his youth career with his aforementioned hometown, Coslada, before joining Espinilla and then Real Madrid all before the age of 13. 

He signed his first professional debut for Real Madrid back in 2006 and played for the Castilla side for two seasons before making five first-team appearances in La Liga in the 2008/09 campaign. 

Whilst with Los Blancos, he had a short loan spell in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers before joining Madrid-based Getafe in 2009 for two seasons. He established himself as a truly excellent player in La Liga between 2011 and 2020 whilst at Mestalla with Valencia, playing 383 times for Los Che and captaining them to the Copa del Rey trophy in 2019 before joining their regional rivals Villarreal a year later.

Internationally he has been capped four times for the Spanish national team but has not been a part of ‘La Roja’s’ squad since 2019 and appears to have had his international career ended.
