Manchester City have completed the signing of highly-rated young forward Julián Álvarez from River Plate.
The Argentina international celebrates his 22nd birthday today by agreeing to a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Citizens. Álvarez will remain at Argentinian champions River Plate until at least July 2022 in a deal expected to be worth around £20 million.
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, was happy with the move: “Julian is a player we have monitored for some time, he is capable of operating in a number of attacking roles, and we firmly believe he's one of the best young attacking players in South America.
“I am so happy we have managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can provide him with the right conditions to fulfil his potential and become a top player.”
Álvarez has been sparking interest from Europe’s top clubs for some time after his impressive performances for River and Playmaker profiled the talented youngster earlier this season when the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid thought to be close to striking a deal.
