A Harry Kane brace helped Bayern Munich overturn their first-leg deficit and eliminate Lazio from the UEFA Champions League as Thomas Tuchel leads his Bavarians into the quarter-finals.

Action: With Bayern Munich trailing and under serious pressure, they weren’t as intense and as front foot as they perhaps should have been in the early stages of this second-leg.
Lazio had the occasional flurry forward with Ciro Immobile and Felipe Anderson but it was a very careful and cautious approach from Maurizio Sarri’s men.
However, Bayern did eventually get back on level terms in the 39th minute of the match through their top scorer as Harry Kane notched his 33rd of the season across all competitions. Leon Goretzka floated a ball into the box which bobbled and was directed goalwards for Thomas Muller and allowed Kane to divert just about past Ivan Provedel.

Bayern then got themselves ahead just before half-time. Raphael Guerreiro’s corner was flicked away by Ciro Immobile and the ball fell for Matthijs de Ligt for the Dutchman to launch a volley at goal and it was diverted in by Muller to double the Bavarians’ lead on the night.
Bayern Munich came out flying with a bit of confidence in the second-half and they went close again as Guerreiro fired an effort across goal and just wide of the upright.
Lazio began to steadily grow into the game and Maurizio Sarri made some changes sensing an opportunity as only one goal would have taken it to extra-time.
However, in the 66th minute, the tie was all but wrapped up when Leroy Sane fired on his left foot and the ball was pushed out by Provedel for Harry Kane to tap in with his left foot.
The big picture: Bayern Munich lost the DFL-Supercup to RB Leipzig in August and were beaten by a lower division side, Saarbrucken, in the DFB-Pokal and they are ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga. This is their only real hope of silverware. Lazio will now return to Serie A and focus on finishing in the top six for next season. They do also have a Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus to look forward to.
Man of the match: Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman has been out of favour for a lot of this season but he put in a stellar performance at the back to set the tone for Bayern.
