Antonio becomes West Ham’s third highest Prem scorer

Originally signed as a fullback winger hybrid, Michail Antonio has reached a new high in his career as a West Ham player, becoming their third top Premier League scorer, with his 40th league goal the winner in a 2-1 victory over West Brom today.

Following the departure of record signing Sebastien Haller to Ajax last week, many, including Playmaker, took the opportunity to run through the Hammers’ disastrous striker signing over the past decade, but one player, who was brought in to assist and stop goals, has continued to show his class at the sharp end of the pitch.

With 40 Premier League goals Michail Antonio sits only behind the legendary Paolo Di Canio and long-time servant Mark Noble in West Ham’s scoring charts, and with only eight needed to top the pile, he may well do so in due course.

Post his side’s 2-1 win that moves them up to seventh in the table David Moyes said, “He was excellent his goal was great, but he is still not at full tilt. We are asking a lot from him and he is turning into a ruthless striker.”

One of a select list to score four Premier League goals in a game when Antonio relegated Norwich at the tail end of last season, the 30-year-old seems to still be peaking as he continues to refine his trade as a goalscorer.

Also known to be excellent in the dressing room and on the pitch, Antonio has been a key part of West Ham’s unexpectedly good start to the season, with many pundits predicting the club would slump under the returning David Moyes.

Today’s winner was yet another fine display of invention and movement from Antonio, and despite over £300 million wasted on strikers since returning to the top-flight, things are being made so much easier by West Ham’s star man.
