Conor Shaughnessy and Kusini Yengi secured a 2-0 victory for Portsmouth against Bolton at Fratton Park on Monday night.
In an even first half, Bolton came close to taking the lead when Paris Maghoma delivered a tempting cross, and Jón Bodvarsson's header was saved by Will Norris, and in the rebound Dion Charles missed a golden opportunity to score as he sent the ball wide with an open goal in front of him.
Portsmouth also had their chances when Abu Kamara's header set Yengi free and the Australian beat Ricardo Almeida Santos, took a shot that Nathan Baxter partially saved, and Gethin Jones had to clear the ball before Kamara could score.
On the stroke of half time, Pompey went in front through Conor Shaughnessy, who headed in a corner from Jack Sparkes.
In the second half, although Bolton tried to rally, but they couldn't create clear opportunities and it was in fact the hosts, who looked more dangerous.
Paddy Lane's low shot was fumbled by Baxter, but the keeper recovered before Yengi could capitalise.
Bolton's best chance to level was from Bodvarsson, but Norris made a crucial save to keep his side in front.
As the game approached its end, Portsmouth sealed the victory when Marley Pack and substitute Gavin Whyte combined on the right, delivering a cross that Yengi converted from close range.
This win extends Portsmouth's lead to six points over second-placed Bolton, with a game in hand. Additionally, Bolton's 11-game unbeaten run came to an end with this defeat at Fratton Park.
