Arsenal battle back to secure 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg

Arsenal staged a remarkable comeback from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Women's Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Despite a strong start, the Gunners found themselves trailing after 25 minutes as Ewa Pajor and Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir scored for the German side. Arsenal were left to rue missed chances in the first 20 minutes, but defensive mistakes cost them for the second goal.

However, just on the stroke of half time, Rafaelle scored a crucial goal to pull the Gunners back into the game and give them hope going into the second half.

The second half saw Jonas Eidevall's sied fight back with determination and they were rewarded when Stina Blackstenius scored the equalizer with 20 minutes to go. 

A wonderful move saw Katerina Svitkova play a through-ball to Nikita Parris, whose low cross beat the Wolfsburg defense for Blackstenius to turn it home.

Former Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord came close to snatching a late winner for Wolfsburg, but her shot narrowly missed the far post.

The draw gives Arsenal a reasonable chance going into the second leg, which will take place at the Emirates Stadium in front of more than 40,000 fans on May 1.
