Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus was a central character as Brazil won their first Copa America title in 12 years at the Maracana.

Hosts Brazil eventually sealed a 3-1 win over underdogs Peru, but victory wasn't straightforward.

It was all going swimmingly for Jesus, as he teed up Everton for Brazil's opener before adding a second himself after Peru's Paolo Guerrero had briefly levelled the scores.

However, Jesus' night took an unexpected turn when he received a second booking with 20 minutes left on the clock - the 22-year-old compounding the situation by kicking a water bottle and then pushing over the VAR monitor as he left the pitch.

Richarlison saved Jesus further blushes, the Everton forward scoring a late penalty to make the game safe and earn Brazil their ninth Copa America title

The victory extended Brazil's record of winning the Copa America every time they have hosted it.

"I want to apologise," Jesus said after the game. "I could have avoided it and I also need to grow up a lot."
