The thrills and spills continue for Madagascar in the Africa Cup of Nations  - the debutants pulling off another shock on Sunday to seal their place in the quarter-finals.

The islanders from the Indian Ocean beat DR Congo 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw and will now play either Ghana or Tunisia in the last eight.

Madagascar took a surprise lead through Ibrahim Amada in a pulsating contest before Cedric Bakambu equalised for the Congo with a headed effort.

Faneva Andriatsima restored Madagascar's lead before Chancel Mbemba's 90th-minute equaliser forced extra-time. The game went to penalties but, apparently nerveless, Madagascar scored all of their spot-kicks to claim an historic win: Everton's Yannick Bolasie skying the decisive penalty.

Prior to Mbemba's 90th-minute equaliser, DR Congo were denied a penalty when Britt Assombalonga appeared to be fouled by Thomas Fontaine. However, with the VAR system not being used until the quarter-finals, their appeals were ignored.
