Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has signed a one-year contract extension with the Addicks - after a bizarre 24 hours during which he was apparently sacked by owner Roland Duchatelet.
Bowyer led Athletic to promotion from League One last season, crowning a great season with a thrilling play-off victory against Sunderland at Wembley.
However, a statement from Duchatelet yesterday suggested Bowyer's request for a salary increase had not gone down well, and that the former Charlton, Leeds and Newcastle United midfielder would be on his way out of The Valley.
By this morning, though, the situation had been resolved, Bowyer signing a new one year contract extension after conciliatory talks with Duchatelet - who is trying to sell the loss-making club.
While the politics may be confusing, the statistics since Bowyer took over at Charlton suggest he deserved a raise.
Aside from back-to-back Premier League champions Manchester City, NO top 4 tier club has won more league games (including play-offs) than Charlton since Bowyer presided over his first game in charge, a 2-0 win against Plymouth Argyle back in March 2018.
The Addicks have made staggering progress under the stewardship of their former player, who will now look to put contract disputes to one side as Charlton look to make a strong start to life in the Championship.
The 2019/20 fixtures for the Championship, League One and League Two will be released this Thursday (20 June).
