Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with a composed display at Anfield that sent Bournemouth (3-0) spinning to an eighth successive away defeat.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring in the 24th minute at Anfield, heading in James Milner's right-wing cross. Liverpool doubled their advantage 10 minutes later from Wijnaldum's pinpoint lob after Andrew Robertson had played him through.
Three minutes after the break, Roberto Firmino's flick set up Mohamed Salah to make it 3-0 for his first goal in three matches and his league-leading 17th of the season.
It was a timely response from Klopp's men who had been held to back-to-back draws in the Premier League to allow City back into the hunt. Manchester City can, however, move back level on points with the Reds with a win over Chelsea this Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp: "That was the reaction we wanted to show today. The boys did that in an outstanding manner, so I’m really happy."
Eddie Howe: "That first goal in a huge moment in the match, we set up to frustrate them and to restrict the space. That worked well in the opening period, we hung in there but the second phase from a set play - half-a-yard offside - was a huge turning point."
