Frankie Bunn’s Oldham Athletic side yesterday extended their unbeaten league run to five games as a last minute Sam Surridge strike snatched all three points for the Latics against managerless Crawley Town.
Winger Gevaro Nepomuceno opened the scoring for Athletic on eight minutes to grab his second goal in as many games.
Dannie Bulman equalised for the visitors prior to the interval before defender George Edmundson crossed for Surridge to poke the ball home and send his side up to sixth in the table with the victory.
If the Latics are going to push for promotion come the end of the season they will need goals to come from midfield as well as attack, so it must have been a delightful sight for Bunn when Nepomuceno interchanged passes with Rob Hunt before slotting home to break the deadlock.
Scoring goals is becoming a common occurrence for the Curaçao international who also netted in last Saturday’s victory away at struggling Morecambe.
Nepomuceno’s two goals this season mean that five of the nine goals scored in this campaign by Athletic have come from midfielders with Dan Gardner finding the net on two occasions whilst Johan Branger grabbed a goal in the victory over Macclesfield Town.

The Latics will however be without Nepomuceno for the next two fixtures after he was called up to the Curaçao squad set to face Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League on Monday 10 September.
The in-form winger will miss the Checkatrade Trophy fixture against Barnsley on Tuesday 4 September and the League Two match against Newport County on Saturday 8 September.
Another player who will miss those games is goalkeeper Daniel Iversen who has been named in Denmark’s under-21 squad for their European qualifying matches against Finland and Lithuania.
The Dane, who saved a penalty in today’s victory over Crawley, will be greatly missed and his absence will allow for a first appearance of the season for back-up goalkeeper Zeus de la Paz.
A player who will be available for both of these games is midfielder Jordan Lyden who was brought in on loan from Aston Villa on Friday afternoon before the loan window closed.
Bunn will be hoping Lyden and the rest of his squad can carry on their good form and get off to a winning start in the Checkatrade Trophy before welcoming second placed Newport to Boundary Park in a top of the table clash.
