No English team has hit more goals in an edition than Liverpool

Champions League hotshots

As if qualifying for the last four wasn't enough, Liverpool's thrilling Champions League quarter-final win at Man City last night also made them the topscoring English team EVER in a single edition of the competition.

After a 3-0 win in the home leg of their quarter-final tie, the Reds survived a turbulent first half against Pep Guardiola's City - Gabriel Jesus scoring for the hosts within two minutes - to qualify thanks to strikes from Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp's team made history in the process: Firmino's goal - their 33rd in the Champions League this term - meaning that Liverpool surpass Alex Ferguson's Man United (32 goals in 2002/03) as the team to score most goals in a single edition.

Salah, Sadio Mané and Firmino certainly haven't made life easy for opposing defences this term, the Reds terrifying the life out of teams on their way to the semis. Three goalfests, in particular, have contributed significantly to the Reds' impressive tally: 0-7 v Maribor, 7-0 v Spartak Moscow and 0-5 v FC Porto.

Unsurprisingly, on-fire Egyptian Salah is Liverpool's top scorer in the current Champions League campaign with eight goals - only Cristiano Ronaldo (14) with more in the competition this season.

Klopp and his men will now look forward to the semi-final draw on Friday (13 April) at midday - the red half of Merseyside eager to find out their opponents for their first Champions League semi-final since a 3-4 aggregate loss to Chelsea back in 2007/2008.
