So often seen as no more than a versatile “put in a shift” footballer, James Milner is fast becoming Liverpool's most valuable player in just his first season at Anfield.
After five years at Manchester City, where the England man made over 35 appearances a season in a wide range of positions, the former Leeds, Newcastle and Villa man sought a change of environment with his place at the Etihad under increased threat.
Almost ever-present in every side he has played for, the often overlooked midfielder is lighting up Anfield with displays similar to those in his Villa days, when he was content to be the biggest name in the starting 11.
In terms of goals, his seven so far this term is one behind his best tally for City in 14/15 and five short of his best of 12 for Aston Villa in 09/10.
The highlight this time around though is his assists for the Reds. The 30-year-old has discovered his creative best in the Premier League with his 11 assists so far dwarfing his tallies over recent years.

Just Mesut Ozil and Christian Eriksen have more assists than Milner in 15/16, but the Liverpool midfielder has been the man in form since the turn of the year.
Mesut Ozil has 18 #EPL assists this season, James Milner 11. Milner, however, has 8 in 2016, Ozil just the two. Momentum. #afc #ynwa
